Goodbye, DJ AM

My first year residence was a hustle and bustle of excitement. There was always something to do, places to go and trips to attend. During that year, my don planned a great trip to MuchMusic in Toronto to catch a live taping of MuchOnDemand. I grew up on this station-- it was my MTV and I had only ever actually sat through one live taping of an interview (INXS-- with the original members). I remember when we arrived we found out we'd be seeing Chingy (Holiday Innnn was THE song of the month at that moment) and an relatively unknown DJ, DJ AM. The entire thing was great and I got to sit right near both Chingy and AM.

3 years later I became obsessed with these insane remixes done by DJ AM. I actually forgot about seeing him at MoD at this point. I basically spent my entire 4th year dancing around the house to these mash-up of songs. "I'ma flyy iii iii ii til I die iii ii ii" (artist and name unknown) was on constant replay while myself my my housemate did homework (ie. he did homework, I sat on his bed and made him play DJ to these songs!).

I was bummed when I missed his show in Toronto (I check his myspace weekly to see where he'd be playing) and then again when I missed out on the London show (which he actually blogged about. Some girl grabbed him bum and he wasn't feeling that at all). I watched his insane skills while Travis Barker drummed along side his DJ'ing in amazement. I don't know how the two of them did that, but it always fascinated me.

Everyone is still on this "Michael Jackson died" kick and while that was sad, I'm actually far more upset that DJ AM passed away. He was a man that loved shoes about as much as I do and I'm disappointed I never saw him spin.

Check this article about his life.
